P19 Digital Euro Round Table: Shaping the Future of European Payments

The Digital Euro is moving from concept to conversation across Europe's payments ecosystem.

The future of payments in Europe is increasingly being discussed through the lens of sovereignty, innovation and resilience. These themes took centre stage during the P19 Digital Euro Round Table, where industry experts, payment professionals and representatives from the retail sector came together to explore the opportunities and implications of the Digital Euro.

Dinape was proud to contribute to this important conversation through our Group Product Manager, Katrin Peschina, who joined experts from across the payments ecosystem to discuss how a European digital payment instrument could impact merchants, consumers and payment providers alike.

Organised in cooperation with the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the round table formed part of a broader series examining the role of the Digital Euro across key sectors including retail, commerce, mobility and tourism. The discussions reflected a growing recognition that Europe’s payment future will require both technological innovation and strategic collaboration.

Across all sectors, one message emerged consistently: the Digital Euro is no longer a theoretical concept. The conversation is shifting towards practical implementation, adoption challenges and the long-term impact on Europe’s payment landscape.

This closely aligns with Dinape’s perspective that payment infrastructure should create greater control, transparency and flexibility for businesses operating in an increasingly complex environment.

Here are the key insights that Katrin Peschina brought back from the event:

• European payment sovereignty remains a strategic priority.
Reducing reliance on non-European infrastructure is becoming increasingly important.

• Adoption will depend on delivering clear value.
Merchants will expect tangible benefits such as cost savings or improved efficiency.

• Cross-border payments remain a major opportunity.
A unified solution could simplify transactions across European markets.

• Trust and simplicity will drive success.
User experience must be secure, intuitive and easy to adopt.

• Collaboration will shape the next phase of development.
Progress will depend on cooperation across the payments ecosystem.

For Dinape, the P19 Digital Euro Round Table offered valuable insight into how the industry is preparing for this development. While questions remain, the direction is becoming clearer.

The discussion around the Digital Euro will continue to evolve, with ongoing collaboration playing a key role in shaping its future.

Stay tuned for more payment insights.
